Biography
Kathy Kerner was born and raised in Bloomington-Normal Illinois and moved to Portland Oregon in the fall of 2010. She received an education from Oregon College of Art and Craft with a BFA in Metalsmithing. Producing pieces that exemplify animals and other surrounding influences inspire her because of the similarities she finds between an animal and how she wants to portray it within the story. She enjoys working techniques such as chasing and repoussé, raising, and piercing. She can range in media from watercolor, gouache, acrylic, digital painting, resins, leather work, and metal work. She has participated in numerous shows including exhibitions at: 31:13 Group Show (NW Portland, OR), Teapots, A 20 Year Retrospective (OCAC), OCAC Student Metals Show (Centrum Gallery, OCAC), and OCAC Book Arts and Print Portfolio Department (OCAC). She was a two time NICHE Awards finalist in 2012 for her pieces Bamboo Teacup and Jin Tao-Panda Teapot. Kathy’s work has been published in 31:13 Oregon College of Art and Craft BFA Thesis Exhibition Catalog and The Art of the Teapot Oregon College of Art and Craft A 20 Year Retrospective. She earned her BFA with a concentration in Metalsmithing from the Oregon College of Art and Craft.
